The Joke that was Jackson

Raise your hand if you never made fun of Michael Jackson.

Thought so.

Accusations of being homosexual and a child molester, his addiction to plastic surgeries, black/white condition, low-pitched voice, and the plastic nose has made him the target of musicians, movie makers, DJs and fans alike- making the King of Pop look like a clown prince. The running gag is he was born a black man but died a white woman.

Ever since the days of Thriller, his persona has taken a downhill turn. Of course, everyone is odd in their own way, but MJ was an oddball among oddballs. I am sure there are people more weird then him, but his celebrity status blew everything up (not out of proportions).

People rarely consider the fact that he had been under public scrutiny wherever he went and whatever he did for 45 of his 50 year life. He had been denied childhood and freedom for all his life (or so he claimed), which might have contributed to this weirdness, but the reasons are not as important as yet another catchy tabloid heading. Celebrities are like sausages, you might not want to know how one was made. Wacko Jacko, he was called.

Despite the face structure, hair, and lips, he is not a woman

Despite the face structure, hair, and lips, this not a woman

Anyways, I wonder what will happen to all the satires about Michael now. Just hours before the highly anticipated Bruno was released in the US, and hours after MJ’s death, a scene involving LaToya Jackson was cut from the movie – but of course it is a sensitive issue right now. But it makes me think- was it okay to make fun of MJ while he was alive?

It’s funny how the world works. People get all mushy when the subject of MJ comes up, even though they (along with me) used to make fun of Jackson’s pedophilia. People starts joining Michael Jackson fan pages and groups left, right and center on social networks, and some, like my friend, who never heard a MJ song before, downloads half his discography and becomes a “die-hard fan”.

To me, he was always a creep.

Maybe because as a musician, he was before my time. He was in my time more as a side joke, someone that over half the stoner comedies or spoof movies would make the butt of every joke.

Will people stop making jokes about Jackson(s) later? I don’t think so. If history is any indication, the little oddities of Elvis Presley are still made fun off in many, many movies and other media. Michael Jackson, in comparison, is a much bigger fish.

What's the pointmaking fun of someone who's not here anymore Elius??? Yeah maybe he had a wierd get up, but don't u think it's not just right to make fun of a dead person?Would YOU do it if this was a relative of yours?I dont think u would...
  • I wasn't making fun of the guy... i compared his public image before his death and after. I wrote nothing but facts.
  • It's Michael Jackson. All of us grew up with his music. I remember the first time I heard "Black or White".

The man was amazing for his time. Too bad his glory faded over time, but his legend still remains.

    Long live Michael Jackson.
  • I was actually talking about his persona and his appearance in recent media, not his music.
  • As I said: "his glory faded over time, but his legend still remains."

His persona and appearance in recent media may have been anything but positive, but the man is still a legend. I really hated the fact that they had him tied up in a pedophilia case. Thank God he won.
